Livestock in the UAE have not been seriously affected by the foot-and-mouth disease, said Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Saeed Mohammed Al Raqabani on Tuesday.
“Only a small number of animals were affected in Al Ain and they were slaughtered,” said the minister, quoted by the Gulf News.
"It is wrong to say that the country's livestock has been badly affected by the disease. Only a small number of animals have been slaughtered in Al Ain due to the disease."
The disease was discovered in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen and reportedly in the Palestinian territories.
The Emirati minister reiterated his assurance that there is no longer a threat.
“Strict controls are being maintained on imports. In addition, the ministry has been working with other national agencies to control the disease,” he added – Albawaba.com
