Yemen would like to join the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), reported the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, on Wednesday.
“The Yemeni request to join the GCC comes from its wish to play an active role in the region,” said Yemeni Foreign Minister Abubaker Al Qurbi during a two-day seminar on Yemen-GCC Future Relations held in Saudi Arabia.
“It is impossible to ignore the history and the joint interests of Yemen and the Gulf region. Yemen is the first country that called to unify the Arabian Peninsula when former Yemeni foreign minister, Mohammed Noman called for it in 1976,” the minister told participants.
Organized jointly by the Yemeni Center for Future Studies and National Council of Culture and Arts of Kuwait, the seminar aims to review the future of Yemen's ties with its Gulf neighbors, as well as to address some of the challenges impeding the Arab nation.
