The UAE Ministry of Social Affairs, today announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with du, the integrated telecom operator in the UAE, to establish a comprehensive web-portal of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the country.
The MoU was signed by Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi, General Director and Ministry of Social Affairs of the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs and Osman Sultan, CEO du at the Ministry offices in the presence of H.E Maryam Mohd Khalfan Al Romi, Minister of Social Affairs, UAE.
Besides acting as a comprehensive source of factual information on all the non-governmental organisations in the UAE, the proposed web portal will showcase the work of each organisation. It will also facilitate volunteering in the UAE by presenting all the available opportunities on one platform.
The pioneering initiative is part of du’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to create sustainable and economically empowering initiatives throughout the UAE.
Osman Sultan, CEO, du, said: “We are proud to be contributing to this initiative by creating an interactive web portal for the Ministry, utilizing our technical expertise to enable the NGOs to communicate effectively. This invaluable tool will enable NGOs to support nation-building efforts and community building.”
Thanking du for it role in contributing to CSR in the UAE in general and the innovative concept of this portal in particular, Abdullah Rashid Al Suwaidi, General Director and Ministry of Social Affairs of the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs, said: “There was a long-felt need to create an integrated platform for all NGOs in the country and foster volunteerism. We commend du’s proactive steps in taking this objective forward and look forward to working with them closely in this endeavour.”
du, the integrated telecom service provider in the UAE, launched mobile telecommunication services on 11 February 2007 across the UAE in addition to internet and pay TV services in some of the free zones of Dubai. Call Select, the first of du's nationwide Fixed line services for voice telephony, was launched in July 2007.

du’s retail network, currently numbering 16 du shops located in strategic locations across all emirates, was launched on 25 February 2007, supporting the delivery of du services to customers.
du is 40 percent owned by the UAE Federal Government, 20 percent by Mubadala Development Company, 20 percent by Emirates Communications & Technology Company LLC and 20 percent by public shareholders. It is listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and trades under the name du.
du was recognised as the ‘Best Brand’ for its innovative branding and outstanding success at the Telecom World Awards Middle East 2007.
