Mohammad Javad-Zarif, a jurist and former deputy foreign minister considered a moderate, has been appointed Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, the foreign ministry announced Monday.
Zarif, a fluent English-speaker and specialist in international relations who has represented the Islamic Republic of Iran at a string of international conferences, replaces Mohammad-Hadi Nejadhosseinian, according to AFP.
Meanwhile, conservatives in Iran protested after unofficial reports that Zarif was to be nominated to the post, complaining of his "political moderation". (Albawaba.com)
