When the lessons are playful, the learning is big. Keeping this concept in mind, Islamic Affairs and Charitable activities department organised a series of fun filled activities including quizzes, presentations on stage, treasure hunts and recitation of nasheeds (Islamic poems) for young ones to mark the occasion of Isra wal Meraj.
The program was conducted for three consecutive days at Modhesh Fun City, whose official sponsor this year is du, the integrated telecom service provider in the UAE. Thousands of gift packs were distributed to the participants at the shows.
Mariyam Ibrahim Abdul Jabar, the supervisor of the event was very pleased with the audience participation for the programme, she said, “The activities have been devised to brush up on the children’s knowledge of Islam. We want to encourage the children to be active in all areas of learning – not just academics. It is the responsibility of the parents and the teachers to tell them about events of Islamic importance and to ensure that they respect such days. On the stage, we first run a DVD presentation for all to see and learn from, then we quiz the audience on the same. We have also arranged for a treasure hunt wherein the children have to find envelopes with questions in them. We give clues as to where they have been hidden in the venue and finders get to win prizes, etc.”
“Apart from the quiz and the treasure hunt, we recite popular nasheeds about Isra wal Meraj and also speak on the way of life of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). It’s all about getting the child to interact on this level of education and learning. The organisers at MFC have been very considerate in running this initiative. They have also paused dance and song events like youla during these 3 days as a sign of respect for this ocassion. Little things make a big impact on a child’s mind and I am happy that we have their full support and cooperation,” she added.
Activities were held twice a day on the Modhesh Fun stage in the Central hall of MFC. The two hours show began at 9.00am and 5.00pm respectively. Children of all nationalities were welcome to participate. Though the show was largely conducted in Arabic, the members of the organising staff were able to communicate the questions to English speaking audience so that they may also be part of the fun and learning.
Housed at the Airport Expo in Dubai, Modhesh Fun City is open to all from 10.00am to 10.00pm, Saturday to Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays, the venue remains open until 12.00am. It opens at 3.00pm on Fridays. Entry fee is AED 20 per person.
