Iraq advanced to its first Asian Cup final by winning a penalty shootout 4-3 over South Korea on Wednesday. The dramatic win was gained after regulation and extra time ended without goals.

Iraq will meet on Sunday the winner of Wednesday's later match between defending champion Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Iraq topped Group A following a 3-1 win over favorite Australia and reached its first Asian Cup semifinal since 1976 with a 2-0 victory over Vietnam at Bangkok on Saturday. After the win, Iraqi players rushed to their supporters to grab national flags as other players wept with joy when realisation hit that they had won, AFP reported.
