The Muslim dawn-to-dusk fasting month of Ramadan is to begin Wednesday in several Arab countries, religious officials in the region announced late Monday.

Ramadan will begin on November 6th in Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Syria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the fasting month will already begin Tuesday in Libya, AFP said.

The start of the month depends on the sighting of the new moon. Muslims base their year on the lunar calendar.
