More than 275 galleries apply to exhibit at difc gulf art fair 2008
Less than three months after the inaugural DIFC Gulf Art Fair, more than 275 galleries from 50 countries, including a number of dealers in the Middle East, have already registered to take part in next year’s fair. The fair’s organizers have extended the registration deadline to accommodate the tremendous response from galleries applying for space at the 2008 event.
“The wave of applications from galleries wanting to participate in the DIFC Gulf Art Fair 2008 indicates the impact that was felt across the industry from our first event just a few months ago. This level of regional and global response underscores our belief that an art fair on this scale was needed in the Middle East and would prove popular in the region as well as with collectors elsewhere in the world,” said John Martin, Co-founder and Fair Director.
After the 2007 fair was deemed an outright success by the organizers and the 40 participating galleries, next year’s fair is set to double in size to accommodate at least 80 galleries. The selection committee has also reported strong growth in the number of Middle East-based galleries that have submitted applications for space at the 2008 event.
The final list of galleries participating in the second annual DIFC Gulf Art Fair will be announced in September 2007.
