Gunbattles raged overnight in various parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip but there were no casualties, the Israeli army said Thursday amid new efforts to relaunch the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
A military communiqué said troops had come under fire to the south and east of Nablus in the West Bank and had responded.
Also targeted were the Jewish settlement of Neve Dekalim, in the south of the Gaza Strip and troops stationed near it, the army said.
Attacks were also recorded near the settlements of Gush Katif and Ganei Tal, as well as near the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
In each case troops had returned fire, the army said -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
