Moroccan King receives UN envoy on Sahara

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI received in Agadir on Tuesday James Baker, Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for the Sahara. 

 

The meeting took place in the presence of William Swing, Representative of the UN Secretary General for the Sahara, and on the Moroccan side by Morocco’s Foreign Affairs and Cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa, Mustapha Sahel, Interior Minister, Mustapha Sahel, Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Delegate minister, Taied Fassi Fihri, Delegate Interior minister, Fouad Ali Himma, and Mohamed Benouna, Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN. 

 

Baker was to propose a political solution to the Sahara issue, according to a United Nations spokesman, MAP reported. 

 

In the context of his North African tour, which is set to last till January 17, Baker will visit Algiers, Tindouf and Nouakchott.  

 

He will hold meetings with government officials in Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania, as well as with the leadership of the Polisario front, the news agency said. (Albawaba.com)
