Morocco's industrial production in 2000 scored a 3.5 percent rise against 2.4 percent the previous year, reported ArabicNews.com.

“The rise was possible thanks to performance in the food, textile and leather industries, whose production rose by 5.2 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively,” said an official at the department of general economic policy.

However, the rise was lower in the metal, electrical and electronic industries, decreasing from 6.6 percent in 1999 to 3.5 percent in 2000, he added.

According to department estimates, industrial activity rose by 4.6 percent in the first quarter of 2001, compared to 4.1 percent in the same period last year, said the news service -- Albawaba.com
