Iran's rich state-run Welfare Organization came to the rescue of a mother and her baby after published reports said both had been "taken hostage" by the maternity hospital to force the father to pay the delivery costs, the Gulf News reported Tuesday.
Without giving details, the daily paper Hambastaghi reported earlier this week the mother and baby would not be allowed to leave the state-owned maternal Akbar Abadi hospital in southern Tehran until the unemployed father coughed up the costs put at the equivalent of $150 -- Albawaba.com
