Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin Friday to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and present an Egyptian-Jordanian plan to end the violence, reported AFP.
Mubarak and Putin were also expected to discuss a "cooperation plan to resolve the conflict," Gennady Seleznyov, speaker of the State Duma, lower house of parliament, said after an hour of talks with the Egyptian leader, who arrived in Moscow Thursday for a three-day visit.
Al Ahram Arabic daily said Friday that the two leaders would focus on political as well as economical topics.
President Putin will present his counterpart Russia’s vision of a resolution to the Mideast conflict to be based on mediation by five parties; namely, the USA, Russia, Egypt, Jordan and the EU.
The presidents will also discuss the situation in Iraq and the Balkan, continued Al Ahram.
At the economic level, the Egyptian ministers accompanying Mubarak will sign with their Russian counterparts four agreements of cooperation. The first deals with the two counties’ stand towards world peace and cooperation, the second is a long- term pact on science, culture, education, technology and economy cooperation, while the third is an MOU on using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The fourth agreement to be signed by the end of visit concerns medical and pharmaceutical cooperation, according to the paper.
This is the first visit by Mubarak to Russia since Putin became president – Albawaba.com
