Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received a massage described as “urgent,” from Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, reported Al Gomhuria Arabic daily on Friday.

The message was handed to Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher by the Japanese envoy to Cairo, who told reporters that Koizumi wants full cooperation between his country and Egypt in fighting terrorism.

The premier stressed in his letter that terrorism should not be associated with the Islam, which is “a religion of peace.”

Koizumi said Thursday he has yet to hear from Washington about a date for a US visit, despite earlier media reports on his imminent departure, reported AFP.

"At this point there is no fixed date for my visit to the United States," Koizumi told reporters after meeting with opposition leaders on Japanese support for any US retaliation for last week's terrorist attacks.

"We need to hear from the US side about the itinerary. We want to determine the timing through watching closely developments in the United States," he said.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said earlier the visit could take place next week – Albawaba.com
