Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Thursday in an interview due to be published on Friday that his country supports the US-led strike on Afghanistan, highlighting the fat the Egypt provides facilities for coalition forces crossing the Suez Canal, reports said.

Mubarak, said the reports, expressed his wishes that the war in Afghanistan should not last long because it might have a negative impact on the whole world, adding that the US campaign will not be able to eliminate terrorism without cooperation from all.

The interview was made by Milhem Karam, Chairman of the Lebanese Journalists Society and will be published Friday in the magazine of Al Hawadeth.

The Egyptian president was sure that the US strikes would not reach Middle East countries.

He believed that the Americans are seeking the support of Afghan parties for they are familiar with Afghanistan’s nature and landscape.

Mubarak said, "the Afghan crisis could help push forward a solution to the Palestinian issue."

He emphasized that his country does not host any terrorists, adding, “If we had any of the September 11 attacks convicts we would have prosecuted them in Egypt.”

He pointed out that his contacts with US President George W Bush were focused on discussing the Middle East issue, adding "we have exchanged seven messages about the matter.” – Albawaba.com
