The retrial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on charges of complicity in the killing of protesters during Egypt's 2011 revolution will begin on May 11, a Cairo appeals court said on Wednesday, Reuters reports.

Last June, Mubarak received a life sentence for failing to prevent the death of hundreds of unarmed anti-regime protesters during the 18-day revolution. In January, however, the former president was granted a retrial due to 'procedural irregularities' in the initial trial.

The retrial collapsed last Saturday when the presiding judge withdrew from the case and referred it to another court.

A judge on Monday ordered Mubarak's release on bail for the complicity charges but this decision did not cancel his detention due to ongoing separate charges.
