The European Union's foreign affairs and security chief, Javier Solana, held talks in Alexandria Wednesday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
According to the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, the two leaders discussed recent developments in the Occupied Territories.
Radio Cairo reported that talks between the sides concentrated on ways of containing the crisis in the Middle East.
Solana in on a tour of the region which has taken him to Israel, the Palestinian territories and Jordan, where he held talks with senior officials on the same issue.
The EU envoy even arranged a meeting between two PA officials and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres late Monday.
The gathering reportedly focused on an anticipated meeting between Peres and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
According to local press reports, Egypt has denied it will host an Arafat-Peres meeting.
EU sources were quoted by KUNA as saying that the bloc’s foreign ministers would discuss the developments in the Occupied Territories in their next meeting in Brussels on Saturday — Albawaba.com
