Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will leave for talks in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates about the Middle East crisis, a source close to Mubarak said Monday.
Mubarak was to hold talks with top officials of both states "about ways to emerge from the current crisis in the region and the steps to be taken by Arab countries," the source said, without elaborating, according to AFP.
The Egyptian leader will spend Tuesday night in Saudi Arabia before going Wednesday to the UAE where he will meet the president, Sheikh Zayad bin Sultan al-Nahyan.
Mubarak visited Libya on Sunday for talks with Libyan leader Colonel Moamer Kadhafi about the situation in the Palestinian territories. He also had talks over the telephone with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah on Sunday expressed his thanks and appreciation to U.S. President Bush for the warm welcome extended to him. He also "expressed appreciation for the serious efforts of President Bush which had led to relaxation of the crisis in the Middle East," SPA reported.
Abdullah confirmed the determination of the Saudi government to continue its contribution which could pave the way for a just and comprehensive peace in the region, SPA reported. (Albawaba.com)
