In the UAE, a rare phenomenon in recent days has seen large schools of fish normally found near the seabed swarming close to the surface, the Gulf News reported Monday.
This has prompted the banning of the "Al Dhagwa" fishing method, which uses huge dragnets, to prevent over-fishing, the paper said.
Last Wednesday, according to the daily, large quantities of fish, mainly those which usually live near the seabed, were found at a depth of just four meters along the coast between Dibba Al Fujairah and Dibba Al Hisn. Fishermen and many local residents saw their opportunity to catch a lot of fish using ordinary lure and line -- Albawaba.com
