The artwork of prominent Jordanian jewelry designer Nadia Dajani which is funded by TATWEER a project of USAID was the highlight of Malaysian art scene, as her designs were showcased at a Private Exhibition entitled ‘Eastern Harmony’, in collaboration with Malaysian designers Marina & Nazlee Sawad ‘House of Bidadari’.
Arabic words spreading harmony and peace, from Jordan, were combined with healing semi-precious stones from Malaysia in many different combinations, and came together to create unique works of art jewelry in the exhibition which was held from 26th May until 2nd June 2007 at "The House of Suzie Wong", located at the luxurious Starhill Complex in Kuala Lumpur.
During the exhibition, Mrs. Dajani showcased her SALAM collection: with hand made silverwork inscribed with Arabic calligraphy, a collection that has become her trademark and which enjoyed enormous success at home in Jordan. Inscriptions from the Holy Quran as well as wishes of well-being which adorned the jewellery were received with immense enthusiasm by the largely Malaysian audience who were keen to know more about Jordan, as well as its art and hand work.
"This is an exercise in cross cultural cooperation as well as another way of introducing Jordan. I am also delighted to present those skillfully-designed pieces of art to a Malaysian audience" Mrs. Dajani said.
"The Salam collection carries a message of peace in troubled times. It conveys the shared values of peace, happiness, good health and friendship and promotes the love of humanity. Wearing or giving this jewelry is a great way to make a statement to the world," Mrs. Dajani noted.
"The collection includes an array of carefully selected semi-precious stones, held together with silver, and accented with words, blessings and charms that form unique compositions of pendants, earrings, and bracelets," she added
The event was attended by high ranking Malaysian officials and VIPs while the guests of honour were HRH Prince Tengku Razaliegh Hamzah and his wife “Chepuan Nur.
Members of Malaysian Royal families, distinguished guests, politicians and journalists received a warm welcome to the event as they were enthusiastically greeted with Arabic coffee and Jordanian sweets. Among those receiving the guests was His Excellency the Jordanian Ambassador to Malaysia Mr Hasan Jawarneh and his wife Basimah.
"This is a continuation of my mission to spread a true Jordanian message though my original designs. It is a humble attempt to raise more awareness of the 'Made in Jordan' label and enrich the handicrafts sector in the country," Mrs. Dajani commented.
