Irish Actor Liam Neeson, 48, was riding his 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle around noon Tuesday when a deer jumped into the road, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office, reported the Associated Press.
A helmet Neeson was wearing saved the life of the actor, who was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in an earth embankment, reported AP.
The motorcycle then, ran into a tree, about 70 miles north of New York City, the news agency added.
The Oscar-nominated Irish actor suffered a fractured right pelvis, a chipped left pelvis, and multiple leg abrasions. He was taken to Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn., a nursing supervisor confirmed. However, she refused to release any information on his condition.
On the other hand, information on the actors well being was readily available through his publicist Alan Nierob who told the AP that the actor is “in good condition and he is resting comfortably.”
“We are expecting a quick recovery,” Nierob added.
Herman Staats of Hyde Park was driving his truck when he spotted Neeson lying on the roadside and alerted emergency response crews.
Neeson had “managed to crawl his way up back to the road,” Staats said. “He wanted me to drive him back to his house right up the road, but I could tell his hips were bothering him.”
As for the deer, Sheriff’s deputies said that it initially ran off, but died nearby a short time after the accident.
Neeson and Richardson are among a host of celebrities who call Dutchess County home, including actors Mary Tyler Moore, Eddie Murphy and James Earl Jones, as well as singers Natalie Merchant and Pete Seeger—albawaba.com.
