Israeli police questioned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late Monday for suspicions of receiving illegal gifts.

Netanyahu was quizzed for three hours at his residence in central Jerusalem for allegedly receiving illegal gifts from two businessmen.

Netanyahu was “questioned under caution on suspicion that he accepted (improper) benefits,” police said in a statement. Police gave no further details.

According to Israeli Radio, Netanyahu is suspected of receiving money and illegal gifts worth thousands of Shekels from foreign and Israeli businessmen.

Netanyahu, for his part, denounced the accusations as “not grounded”.

According to Israeli Radio, investigators will question Netanyahu on the allegations in another session this week.

Netanyahu, on his fourth term as a prime minister, has been in power sporadically since 1996 .
