New milestone reached in journey towards business excellence and better customer service
Department of municipal affairs and western region municipality receive iso 9001:2008 certification
Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) and Western Region Municipality (WRM) have set the standard for excellence in government performance by achieving ISO 9001-2008 certification for Strategic Planning, Performance Management and Support Services (Procurement, Training & Recruitment). Abu Dhabi Municipality and Al Ain Municipality are next to receive the certification. This milestone is the first step towards an Integrated Management System (IMS) which will deliver consistent customer service across the emirate, making Abu Dhabi a better place in which to live, work and invest.
“Customer service is at the heart of what we do,” says H.E. Rashid Al Hajeri, Chairman of DMA. “Now, residents and businesses across the emirate can expect to benefit from the same, consistently high quality service whether they are in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi or the Western Region. The certified system enables the municipal bodies to build its internal capability and set clear standards for staff to help them provide better services to everyone, everyday.”
The first phase of the Integrated Management System (IMS) involves securing ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System and ISO 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety. The second phase seeks ISO certification for corporate social responsibility, information technology, security techniques and information security.
H.E. Rashid Al Hajeri adds, “Once we receive ISO 9001:2008 certification across the entire municipal system, we will extend the benefits of ISO best practices across other departments and sectors. In parallel, we will introduce, build and implement a sustainable Environmental Management System (EMS) and the Occupational Health and Safety (OSHAS).”

Hamood Humaid Al Mansouri says, “It is a proud moment for the Western Region Municipality that we are ready to provide internationally recognised levels of consistent, quality service to our residents and businesses. This certification confirms that we are perfectly placed to improve quality of life across the Western Region while underscoring the emirate’s new reality of improved customer services.”
