Batelco Human Resources Department in collaboration with the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and The Standardisation Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (TSB – ITU) have organised a Seminar on Standardisation and Development of Next Generation Networks (NGN) for the Arab Region.
The 4 day event, which will take place at the Gulf Hotel Awal Ballroom, will run from April 29th to May 2nd. Additionally a Workshop on NGN Interconnection will be held on the afternoon of May 2nd and all day May 3rd.
The Seminar will take place under the patronage of Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa while the Workshop will be held under the patronage of Batelco Human Resources & Government Relations General Manager Shaikh Ahmed Al Khalifa.
The objectives of the seminar are twofold; first to discuss the current trends, status and future evolution of NGN technology and standardisation as being addressed by the ITU and share the experiences of NGN design, development and deployment.
Second, as NGNs are a major departure from the network today, NGN regulatory and policy issues for developing countries to exploit its full potential for development, will also be discussed.
The objective of the interconnection Workshop is to look at the challenges for regulatory and policy frameworks associated with the deployment of NGN in the region.
“The Workshop will focus in particular on what kinds of interconnection arrangements make sense in an NGN world,” said Shaikh Ahmed.
“It will also provide a unique opportunity to develop a common understanding of the current issues and the best ways to handle the migratory phase when multiple networks are in use.”
