ALBAWABA - An explosion in Nigeria has resulted in the death of 19 people and left two dozen injured, security sources as reported by AFP.

The bomb blast took place on Wednesday night in a teahouse in Kawuri village in Borno State. It was said to be one of the deadliest blasts in recent years in northeast Nigeria.

Ibrahim Liman, a member of an anti-jihadist militia that works with the army, said: "There was an explosion at a tea joint in Kawuri around 8:00 pm yesterday. We have recovered 19 dead bodies and 27 injured."

According to the AFP report, two other militiamen were killed in the blast that occurred in the village around 50 kilometres from the state capital Maiduguri.

No one claimed responsibility for Wednesday's blast or the Gwoza attacks, however, some sources suspect that they could have been carried by either the Boko Haram jihadist group or their rivals Islamic State West Africa Province.

Weeks ago, multiple suicide attackers carried out a blast killing at least 32 people in Borno State's Gwoza area. The attackers bombed a wedding, a hospital and a funeral.
