Number of cancer cases increases in Algeria

The number of cancer cases has risen in Algeria. According to a national survey, the number of diagnosed cancer cases was around 10,000 in 2002. The number of cancer cases increased to 30,000 in the last couple of years and this figure is expected to be above 60,000 in the next five years. Geographically, 34 % cancer cases are from Algiers and the remainder is from other areas. <i>El-Moudjahid</i> reports that among the cancer cases, breast cancer cases have shown the highest increase with 3,000 to 7,000 new cases per year.
