A member of al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front conducted a suicide bomb at a Syrian army outpost in Aleppo, killing at least 25 regime loyalists and injuring scores, Reuters reported Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said residents across the city heard the explosion, which is part of a large-scale offensive on the country's second-largest city to take western parts still controlled by the government.

Rebel websites said the regime has been heavily targeting rebel-held parts of the Jamiyat al-Zahra district, an area that's key for the opposition fighters attempting to get closer to the heart of the city. Nusra has posted photos on social media of its militants heading toward the district.
