German Transport Minister Reinhard Klimmt has resigned, a spokesman for his Social Democrat (SPD) party announced Thursday.
Klimmt has been under increasing pressure from members of his Social Democratic Party (SPD) to resign following his conviction in a fraud case, though on Monday had ruled out stepping down.
He had been fined 13,800 Euros (11,870 dollars) by a court in the western town of Trier Monday for "involvement in embezzlement" connected to a football club he ran.
His resignation was announced at an extraordinary meeting of the SPD in Berlin – BERLIN (AFP)
