At the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday morning, Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the response to the ongoing rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel would very soon be decided.
"It would be wrong to go into detail and hold discussions through newspaper headlines - suffice it to say that we are convinced that this situation in the south cannot be allowed to continue - the crossroads leading to a decision on how things will be handled is very near," the Israeli leader told the ministers, according to Israel Radio.
Last week, a Palestinian rocket struck a crowded shopping mall in southern Israel, wounding scores of people.
