Oman Prepares to Reopen Israel Trade Office

The Sultanate of Oman is preparing to re-open its trade office in Tel Aviv, according to the Iranian Al-Wefaq daily (January 12). The Assistant Director General of the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mushtaq Abdullah Al-Saleh, and his assistant, Mr. Ali Ktheiry, had conducted talks in Tel-Aviv with the Israeli Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister, Mr. Nawwaf Masalha, for that purpose.

The Sultanate closed its office in 1997 after the Israeli government, headed by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that they would build a new Jewish settlement in occupied East Jerusalem. Oman and Qatar are the only Gulf states who conduct trade relations with Israel.
