One policeman was killed and 10 others were wounded Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire on a police bus in Istanbul, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The attack took place in the Gaziosmanpasa district, on the city's European side, as the bus carrying riot police turned into the neighborhood from the main highway, the report said.
Immediately after the attack, additional policemen were deployed in the area to hunt the perpetrators.
Police believe the attack was carried out by at least three people, who later fled the scene on foot, the all-news NTV channel said.
Officials have not yet made a statement on who they believe to be behind the assault -- ANKARA (AFP)
