Orthopedic Patients Have New Regional Resource as Spine and Hip Surgeon Joins Dubai Bone and Joint Center
Dr. Maarten Spruit Appointed as New Orthopedic Surgeon at the Dubai Bone and Joint Center
Dubai Bone and Joint Center (DBAJ), in pursuing the mission to become the premier center for musculoskeletal treatment and research in the Middle East, is further addressing the regional rise of orthopedic injuries and illness through the appointment of Dr. Maarten Spruit as Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Spruit joins DBAJ from the St. Maartenskliniek Nijmegen, The Netherlands, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, where he served as Chief of Orthopedics.
“Dr. Spruit brings with him vast education and experience in spine and hip surgery to address musculoskeletal disorders in the Middle East,” stated Suzanne El-Houby, CEO of Dubai Bone and Joint Center. “His expertise will enable us to further investigate and address the increase in orthopedic-related complaints in the region, which will enable residents to be treated here rather than needing to seek medical care abroad.”
With his extensive background, Dr. Spruit is on the leading edge of medical care for lumbar disc pathology, low back pain, spondylosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis and spinal deformity. Dr. Spruit is expert in primary and revision total hip arthroplasty. Dr. Spruit has been the Principal Investigator of several clinical research trials. For the past fifteen years, he has published and presented numerous research papers on spine and hip pathology. He completed a thesis on surgical treatment of degenerative disc condition of the lumbar spine.
“My new role with the Dubai Bone and Joint Center should enable me to further innovate in patient care as the region becomes better known as a medical hub” stated Spruit. “Working in such a highly respected and experienced center, we hope to not only help patients currently suffering from Orthopedic Diseases but also to advance research in the prevention and care of such diseases.”
Dr. Spruit completed his education and training at two of the leading Orthopedic Centers in Europe. He completed his medical studies at the University of Leuven in Belgium and then went on to finish his medical training at the St. Maartenskliniek Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Dr. Spruit has gained more than 10 years of crucial experience working with world famous Orthopedic Surgeons in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders and adult hip pathology. Most recently, serving as chief of Orthopedics in St. Maartenskliniek, where Dr. Spruit led a team of 17 Orthopedic Surgeons.
