Over 15,000 Bahrainis to Benefit from Job 'Reservations'

The Bahraini government decided in its weekly session on Sunday to implement further plans to create over 15.000 new jobs for the Bahraini nationals.

The prime minister, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, addressed the ministers to put efforts on implementing more of programs in order to create jobs for the nationals.

Bahrain Tribune said that the prime minister issued directives to the concerned ministries to implement the decision to reserve certain jobs for nationals only.

The plan aim to create 15,000 jobs for Bahrainis, covering different fields like driving heavy-duty vehicles, handling clearance of paperwork at government departments, and unskilled labor such as gardeners, cleaners and messengers. The plan also stipulates that there will be not less than 50 percent Bahrainization in the retail sector and the hairdressing and beauty services sector, said the daily.

The ministries of Interior, Labor and Social Affairs, Finance and National Economy, Commerce and Industry and the Civil Service Bureau will coordinate a follow-up to the plan within a timetable, it added.

Bahrain has announced earlier in June a long-term master plan to eliminate the job crisis in the country by replacing foreign workers with Bahrainis.

Reports said that the issue of free visas for workers has become the focus of public debate, with many calling them one of the main reasons for unemployment among nationals.

Official unemployment among Bahraini nationals hit record levels in April, exceeding 9,600.

“The number of people seeking jobs increased to 9,670 by April 25, the highest number in several years," Labor and Social Affairs Minister Abdel-Nabi Al Shula said last month -- Albawaba.com
