ALBAWABA - More than 300 people were kidnapped from a Catholic school in Nigeria, triggering wide anger and increasing fear about the safety of Christians in the African country.

Pope Leo XIV condemned the incident and called for the release of 315 hostages taken from the school in one of the largest mass kidnappings in the country, AFP reported Sunday.

"I learned with immense sadness the news of the kidnappings of priests, faithful, and students," the Pope stated after the end of the Angelus prayer, adding, "I make a heartfelt appeal for the immediate release of the hostages," who were taken by force from the Catholic school.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) reported on Saturday that a group of armed men had kidnapped over 300 students and teachers in raids on two schools in Nigeria.
