Tougher controls on imports of products which endanger the ozone layer will be enforced by the UAE munacipalities, the Gulf News reported Friday.
Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of the Environment Department, was quoted by the daily as saying that the restrictions on imports of harmful products and a ban on re-exports would be enforced under regulations enacted July last year.
He said existing local stocks of ozone-damaging products would be allowed.
"But imports of more products or re-exports of these products will not be tolerated," he said. "We are trying to direct the industrial sector to use more environmentally safe products." – Albawaba.com
