PA Secretary: Israeli Planes Dropped Deadly Candy to Poison Gaza Children

Published May 22nd, 2001 - 02:00 GMT

The secretary of the Palestinian presidency, Tayyeb Abdul Rahim, said Tuesday that Israeli planes had dropped poisoned chocolates on the Gaza Strip on Monday with the intention of harming children, Israel Radio reported, quoted by Haaretz.

Rahim added that Palestinian police had collected all the poisoned candies.

The accusations were also featured in numerous Palestinian newspapers. The official Palestinian news agency quoted the head of the emergency room in a Gaza hospital as saying that four children were admitted with poisoning.

The news agency also quoted reports of candies containing poisonous radioactive material.

Israeli officials dismissed the accusations as wild fabrications, said the paper.

The Palestinians accuse Israel of using internationally condemned weapons in its attacks against the Palestinians, including a mysterious poison gas.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has said that Israel will use all available weapons to ensure security for the Israelis. His comments came in response to international criticism of the use of F-16 fighters to bomb Nablus and Ramallah –
