Pakistan said on Saturday that it was considering opening an office in Gaza to represent the Asian Muslim country at the Palestinian Authority, reported Reuters Saturday.
“The idea of opening some representative office in Gaza has been considered,” Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar told a news conference.
But he stressed that no decision had yet been taken to proceed with the plan.
As Islamabad does not officially recognize Israel, attempts to open an office on Israeli territory could be blocked.
Asked to explain how Pakistan planned negotiating such an obstacle, Sattar said: “We have not said the office will be established tomorrow.”
If established, the office would be accredited to the Palestinian Authority based in Gaza, he said.
Pakistan has been an outspoken supporter of the Palestinians' demand for an independent homeland. It is one of many Islamic countries which have refused to recognize the state of Israel since it was created in 1948 – (Agencies)
