Israeli authorities are set to return the bodies of two Palestinians who were shot dead last month during alleged attempted attacks, the Palestinian liason office said in a statement.
The office said Israeli authorities will return the bodies of Ahmed Awad Abu al-Rub and Sadeq Ziad Gharbiyeh around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Al-Rub, who was 16 years old at the time of his death, was shot and killed on Nov. 2 at the al-Jalama checkpoint north of Jenin after allegedly attempting to attack Israeli soldiers with a knife, Israel's army said at the time. No Israelis were injured during the incident.
Gharbiyeh, also 16 years old, was shot and killed during a similar incident after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli border guard at the Container checkpoint east of Jerusalem near Abu Dis. No Israelis were injured.
Deputy Mayor of Jenin, Kamal abu al-Rub, said the families of the two victims had been notified and that Palestinian authorities are waiting on more information as to where the transfer will take place.
On Tuesday, Israel released the bodies of 19-year-old Maram Hassouneh and 72-year-old Tharwat al-Shaarawi, both of whom were also accused of attempting attacks before they were shot dead.
Israel is still holding the bodies of dozens of other Palestinians killed in recent months, including those of at least 21 Hebron-area Palestinians. The policy of holding alleged Palestinian attackers' bodies has further stoked tensions in the occupied West Bank, which has been engulfed by unrest since the beginning of October.
