The panelists for Palestine's Cultural Award for the year 2000 decided Sunday to present ten awards for Palestinian and Arab poets, actors and intellectuals for their remarkable contributions and achievements during the year.
The committee was headed by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
The announcement came during a meeting attended by Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo at Khalil Sakakini Center in Ramallah.
The awards were given for the following:
1- the poetry award for Mureed Barghouthi
2- the novel award for Yehya Khalaf
3- the literary criticism award for Faisal Daraj
4- the biography award for Faisal Hourani
5- the translation award for Ahmed Omar Shaheen
6- the fine art for Kamal Balatah
7- the song award for Reem Banna
8- the journalism award will be given as follows:
a- photo journalism award for Talal Abu Rahmeh
b- reporting award for Waleed Omari
9- the Jerusalem award for the Islamic-Christian Committee for the Defense of Al-Quds. The award is to be given to Shiekh Mohammed Hussein and spokesman for the Orthodox church Atallah Hanna.
10- the Palestine's honoring award will be given for Egyptian actors and Actresses for their role in supporting the Intifada. The award will be handed to secretary general of Egypt's Union of the Artists' Associations.
