Two factions of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) denounced the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement Tuesday between Israel and the Palestinian leadership, and called for the pursuit of Intifada.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) issued separate statements in Damascus in which they both stressed that the Intifada (uprising) must continue until the end of Israeli occupation.
At the same time, the radical Islamic Jihad movement also rejected the outcome of the summit and called for the Intifada to continue.
The PFLP charged that the summit "reactivated security cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, betraying the blood spilled by the martyrs".
"The PFLP calls on the Palestinian Authority to refuse a resumption of (peace) negotiations unless it is away from American hegemony and founded on international legislation," it said.
The DFLP said the results of the two-day summit that ended earlier Tuesday "put the assassin (Israel) and the (Palestinian) victim on the same level", stressing that this was unacceptable.
It also denounced "the immorality of American policies towards the Palestinian people" and accused Washington of being biased in favor of Israel.
"We must put an end to the Israeli violence and eliminate its causes by putting an end to the occupation" of Palestinian territories, the DFLP said.
"We must provide the Palestinian people with international protection and deploy UN troops in Palestine in order to implement international resolutions," it added.
The PFLP and DFLP, both based in Damascus, and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's larger Fateh faction, are the principal components of the PLO.
Islamic Jihad, one of the most radical of Palestinian movements, said it did not feel bound by the Sharm el-Sheikh accords.
It called on "the masses of our people to continue the Intifada and resistance; there is no other way to regain our rights and our land.
"The declaration of Sharm el-Sheikh amounts to offering the blood of the martyrs as a gift to (Israeli Prime Minister Ehud) Barak," it said.
On Saturday, the PFLP and the DFLP warned Arafat against joining Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak at an emergency Middle East summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
