A Palestinian factory in the Gaza Strip was set ablaze by shelling from Israeli tanks and burned down Saturday because gunfire prevented firefighters from reaching the scene, Palestinian witnesses said.

The plant, located near the flashpoint Karni crossing into Israel, was hit during retaliatory fire from the Israelis after they had come under fire from Palestinians, the witnesses said.

There were no initial reports of casualties -- GAZA CITY (AFP)
