A Palestinian resistance group has declared its responsibility for ”a machinegun and grenades attack” late Tuesday on an Israeli military post in Rafah, Gaza Strip.
The Forces of Martyred Leader Omar al-Mukhtar said in a statement faxed to Albawaba.com in Amman that “Martyred Samer Barghouthi Group attacked a military checkpoint of the Zionist enemy near Salaheddine Gate,” resulting in the injury of several Israeli soldiers.
In early October, the group also claimed responsibility for the killing of an Israeli man in the West Bank, saying it was in retaliation for the death of Muhammad Durra, the Palestinian boy killed by Israeli army fire in Gaza. Mohammad’s death caused a shock to the world when a videotape featuring the killing was broadcasted all over the globe.
The organization is said to have links with Fateh-Intifada, a breakaway Damascus based Palestinian faction that is vehemently opposed to making peace with Israel.
