Palestinian Group Claims Responsibility for Attack on Israeli Soldiers in Gaza

The Forces of the Martyr Omar al-Mukhtar claimed responsibility Saturday for an attack that injured Israeli soldiers near Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement received by Albawaba.com. 

"A group from the Forces of the Martyr Omar al-Mukhtar at noon Saturday attacked with automatic weapons a military position of the Zionist enemy on a bridge near the Gush Katif settlement ... injuring a number of Israeli soldiers," the group said in the statement. 

"Our forces were able to return to their bases safely," it said. 

An Israeli military spokesman said that two Israeli soldiers were shot and injured by Palestinians near the Gush Katif settlement near Khan Yunis, according to AFP. 

Two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli soldiers in ensuing clashes, Palestinian sources said, AFP added – Albawaba.com
