ALBAWABA - According to WAFA, Palestinian leader and one of Fatah's cofounders Faruq al-Qaddumi had died in the Jordanian capital Amman at the age of 93, after a long illness.
al-Qaddumi, also known as Abu Lutuf, was born in Jinsafut in the Qalqilya governorate in 1931. He attended Jinsafut and Al-Manshiya School for his elementary education, Al-Amiriya School for his secondary education, and the American University in Cairo for his bachelor's degree in economics in 1958.
Throughout his career, Al-Qadduumi was interested in politics; while a student in Egypt, he got to know Salah Khalaf and Yasser Arafat. He additionally contributed to the establishment of the Fatah organization alongside the late President Yasser Arafat, Khalil Al-Wazir, President Mahmoud Abbas, and Salah Khalaf.
He was the secretary of the Fatah movement's Central Committee, as well as one of the authors for the movement's periodical "Our Palestine," its representative in Cairo, its international relations officer, and a member of the Central Committee since 1965.
Al-Qaddoumi joined the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1969 and rose through the ranks to become a member of the Executive Committee, the National Council, the PLO's Political Department Head in 1973, and the PLO's Foreign Affairs Department Head in 1989.
He made a significant contribution to the growth of the organization's ties with the Soviet Union, the Arab world, and several other nations.
