ALBAWABA - The Palestinian Authority's Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) confirmed today the death of 37-year-old Palestinian prisoner Mohammed Munir Mousa in Israel's Soroka Hospital.
Mousa is believed to have died on Friday, October 11 in the Beersheeva hospital. In a joint statement published today, both organizations stated that Israeli occupation officials notified them of Mousa's death.
He has been arrested since April 20, 2023. Prior to his death, he was detained at Ramon Prison and had no known chronic health conditions.
The statement noted the grave circumstances surrounding Mousa's death, saying that he is one of 41 Palestinian prisoners who have died in jail since October 7, 2023.
According to the statement, these deaths are the result of systematic abuses committed by Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinian prisoners, such as torture, medical negligence, and starvation.
The report slammed the Israeli government's crimes against Palestinian prisoners, adding that since the beginning of the current Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, it has engaged in unsurpassed violence against prisoners, which is thought to have been authorized at the highest levels of the Israeli administration.
The report called out Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for encouraging violence against Palestinian prisoners. According to the two groups, the number of dead detainees has risen drastically since October 7, 2023, with at least 41 verified deaths, including 24 in Gaza.
Many more remain unaccounted for since Israeli officials have not revealed their names, resulting in one of the greatest prisoner death rates in recent years.
