Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in the northern West Bank late Monday, Israeli media and the army said.
The Israeli news site Ynet reported that a Palestinian gunman near the Tapuach (Zaatara) checkpoint in southern Nablus opened fire at an Israeli police officer, hitting him in the leg.
Israeli soldiers returned fire, killing the Palestinian, Ynet said.
An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed the incident, saying that a border policeman was lightly wounded by the gunfire and that soldiers responded by shooting and killing the man.
The man's family later identified the man as Alaa Muhammad Awad Audah, 30, from the town of Huwwara south of Nablus.
