Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Tulkarem Wednesday shot dead a Palestinian youth. According to Israeli media reports, the Palestinian was holding a Molotov cocktail.
Palestinian sources said the dead youth, identified as Mahmoud Sabri Halil Tamouni, 18, was killed by shots fired from an Israeli tank positioned in an eastern neighborhood of the town. They said an exchange of fire between Palestinians and soldiers then ensued, with no casualties reported.
Also Wednesday, Israeli troops detained 11 wanted Palestinians in the West Bank. Five of the men were arrested in Tulkarem, five in the Hebron area and one was detained south of Qalqilyah. The troops also set up a checkpoint at the entrance to Bir-Zeit University in a suburb of Ramallah and arrested five Palestinians there overnight. The arrests were part of a routine sweep for suspected militants, an army spokesman said.
Meanwhile, settlers parked hundreds of cars on the road to an illegal outpost south of Nablus, in an attempt to thwart what would be the first evacuation of a populated outpost since Israel's Defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer launched a campaign this month to take down as many as 30 unauthorized enclaves.
Some 1,000 settlers and sympathizers gathered at the site to protest against the planned evacuation. The settlers attacked journalists outside the outpost. According to reports, journalists were stoned and some were forced to leave the site. (Albawaba.com)
