A 32-year-old Palestinian refugee was shot Sunday in the head by unidentified assailants as he was preparing to leave his home in the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in Sidon, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
Mahmoud Abul-Kel was ambushed by two gunmen who shot him in the head several times, inflicting serious injuries before running away, said the paper, adding that police were searching for the attackers.
In another incident, the paper said that unidentified assailant opened fire Sunday on mayor of the eastern city of Zahle.
Elie Abu Musa was unharmed during the attack, said the paper, quoting the mayor as saying that the electricity supply had just gone off when he heard three shots fired in his direction.
