The Israeli police detained a Palestinian teen from occupied East Jerusalem early Wednesday and transferred him to a police station for interrogation.

Lawyer of the Addameer Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association, Muhammad Mahmoud, told Ma'an that Israeli forces detained Bakr Uweis from the Ras Al-Amud neighborhood after raiding his home early Wednesday.

An Israeli police spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment.

Ras Al-Amud is one of many Palestinian neighborhoods in occupied East Jerusalem subject to routine detention raids by Israeli forces.

Israel has illegally occupied East Jerusalem since 1967 in a move never recognized and condemned by the international community.

Over 6,000 Palestinian political prisoners were being held in Israeli jails as of April 2015.
