Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat accused Israel on Thursday of a flagrant violation of the truce accord brokered in Egypt two days ago.

His office said he told US officials Israel was keeping its forces at the entrances to Palestinian towns, cities and refugee camps and continued to impose a total blockade of a large number of Palestinian areas in a "flagrant violation" of the truce announced by US President Bill Clinton at a summit on Tuesday.

A statement said Erakat, who is also local government minister, made the comments in a meeting with US Consul General Ronald Schlicher in the West Bank town of Jericho and during telephone conversations with US State Department officials, including Middle East envoy Dennis Ross -- JERICHO (AFP)
